Large Olive Wood Centerpiece Bowl

Hand carved from a single block of aged olive wood, this large centerpiece bowl measures 41 cm (16.1 in) in diameter and 18 cm (7.1 in) in height. Its generous size and deeply figured grain make it a beautiful centerpiece, while still being made for everyday use.

The bowl is shaped by hand around the natural character of the wood. Rather than forcing perfect symmetry, the craftsman follows the grain and carefully shapes each curve, preserving the natural ripples and rich golden brown patterns that make every piece unique.

A bowl of this size requires a particularly large section of mature olive wood, usually from the lower part of an old tree where the grain has developed its greatest depth and character. The wood is used only when a tree has reached the end of its productive life or when an old grove is being renewed.

Because suitable pieces of wood are difficult to find, bowls of this size are made only occasionally. This is currently the only one we have. Once sold, another can only be made when the right piece of aged olive wood becomes available, which may take months or even years.

Olive wood is naturally dense, strong, and durable. This is not a piece that needs to sit untouched on a shelf. Use it for fruit, bread, serving food, or simply leave it at the center of the table. With simple care, it can be enjoyed for generations, developing a richer patina and character through years of use.

Made to be used and lived with, it is a piece of traditional craftsmanship that can become part of everyday life, family meals, and gatherings around the table.
