Altar Crucifix

The cross itself is handcrafted by Christian artisans in Nazareth, while the body of Christ is carved in Bethlehem by a small family who has done this work for many years, one of the last in the region still practicing this craft. They use simple tools and take their time. Each figure begins as a small block of wood, and little by little, the form is found. The work asks for patience. A single slip can break what has taken hours to shape. The hands, the face, and the body are shaped with care until they feel right. There is no hurry in the process. The smooth texture feels warm in the hand, and the gentle scent of olive wood holds a sense of calm and continuity. Placed in a space of prayer or stillness, it gathers light softly around it, a simple form that embodies peace and invites the heart to rest.
